Ah, Tapas. So we meet again

Last week, with the arrival of September, we relaunched Baqueano Set Menu which included a new option: Baqueano Tapas Set Menu. Whilst the concept of tapas is new for Baqueano, it is definitely not new for us!

Back in 2012, we were living in Tavira (Algarve, Portugal’s southernmost region), and we had our own wine and tapas bar, called “Malbec y Vos” – which by the way, a few months ago we rediscovered the bar’s TripAdvisor page (TripAdvisor was not even a proper thing back then!) https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Malbec-y-vos- where we offered a selection of tapas of Spanish and Argentinian nature. And we also offered Argentinian steak! Jorge was the chef here whilst Adriana was Front of House (exactly the same as in Baqueano). That was one of the first experiences for us in the restaurant industry.

There are many, many different versions of the history and origins of the world famous Spanish tapas, but one of the most popular ones is that the tradition evolved from the practice of covering wine glasses in Spanish taverns and inns with small slices of bread or ham in order to keep flies, mosquitoes or dust away. Hence the name “tapas”, that literally means “to cover”.

The tapas tradition extends to all parts of the world, and in Argentina we are not far behind! Throughout the country there are more and more restaurants and bars that honour this Spanish tradition.

At Baqueano we offer a set menu made uniquely of Argentinian flavours, perfect to eat in a very relaxed and informal way. Lighter than a normal meal but without renouncing to the quality and freshness of the preparation of the dish. In addition, all our menu items are made of fresh ingredients, and everything is prepared in our kitchen, so the dishes are healthy too! Our intention is for clients to be able to taste small portions of different dishes so that they can make the most of our menu and get a general idea of the type of food we provide.

Most of the items you’ll find in the Tapas Set Menu are a modified version of the dishes from the A la Carte Menu but, of course, in small portions, such as the famous Empanadas or the savoury Grilled Argentinian sausage. But we have also added some new items that are only available on this new Set Menu, such as the “Tostada Caprese”, mashed avocado, tomato and buffalo mozzarella on toast: definitely not an Argentinian “classic”, but it is slowly becoming a new trend in the Argentine palate.

You can have a look at the new Set Menu on the “Menu” tab of this website. It is available every weekday until 6:30pm. Why not try it out today? ;)

For now, that’s all from us. We will see you very soon.

Gracias!

Team Baqueano
